Characteristics

  • Whilst this type gets a lot of comfort from having what they consider to be adequate information to make a decision, they still prefer to take their time before making a final choice.
  • They tend to get very uncomfortable whenever a situation arises where they have to make a decision quickly.
  • This usually comes from their awareness that life is full of decisions that cannot be reversed once made.
  • They also tend to view most decisions through a lens that treats them as though they were consequential and irreversible.
  • This said, when they do finally make a decision, they take confidence in the fact that they made the best possible choice, and they are capable of getting over any wrong decisions they make with relative ease.

Beliefs

They believe that it’s important to “take a step back” and look at the information available from an objective viewpoint before making a final decision.

Fears

They have a fear of making a decision which cannot be reversed, and which would affect not only them, but also other people.

Justification statement

“Give your best to every decision, take your time, and stand by your final choice, knowing you did your best.”

Strategy for growth

Reformers will have to learn how to get out of their own way, otherwise their fear of making bad, irreversible decisions will continue to make them indecisive. They have to accept that it is more important to make a decision than not to make a decision at all. The moment they become more open to taking calculated risks, they will grow in self-confidence and start developing their intuition.

All human beings have traits of all the decision types, but we all have a dominant type which we use and rely upon more than the others.
